Is Atlanta and the surrounding suburbs a nice place to live?

I hear a lot about Atlanta, but I don't usually hear people saying that they love Atlanta or that Atlanta is a great place to live, but I also don't hear anything negative about it. Considering how fast Atlanta has grown over the past decade, I would assume it's a nice place. I currently live in Raleigh, NC and I get the impression that most of the Atlanta area is like Raleigh but 10x larger. I was thinking about relocating there … would that be a good move or bad?

  1. Bad move right now. The economy is sinking further into recession, people are losing jobs, Atlanta is in a drought, traffic here is a nightmare from which you cannot wake up, violent crime is on the rise, and government is running out of money to provide services. Stay where you are for a little while longer and see what happens. EDIT: Here's a link to a story about how hard it is becoming to find a job here. http://www.11alive.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=122676&catid=40
  2. A good one. You should move there. It's a really nice place to live!
  3. Don't move!! Atlanta was a great place to live before the Olympics. The population and development exploded. I don't like living here anymore. Traffic is a nightmare, a lot of bad drivers, rude drivers and road rage. The suburbs all look the same, a bunch of quickly manufactured houses that all look the same with identical strip malls and no originality. I've been thinking about moving to NC. Stay where you are!
  4. First of all Atlanta IS a nice place to live in. It being a large city, of course it has its rough patches, some of which I discover from time to time. It's a big city so that is expected anyway. I have been to other towns and still think Atlanta is one of the prettiest. Is there traffic. yes and I think it's because a lot of people don't know the other routes. I live in a suburb, Smyrna and it takes me between 20 and 30 minutes to get to downtown. It has a very vibrant entertainment culture with loads and loads of restaurants. It also houses a few prominent schools, Emory being the best in the South East and it MBA school No7 worldwide. you would need to provide more info as to what is the driving force for the move though. All the best
