Amazon has announced the opening of applications for two new community funds totaling $400,000 to support projects in Douglas, Butts, and Newton counties. This initiative is part of Amazon’s broader investment strategy in Georgia.
According to a press release by Amazon, the company has launched two community funds that offer microgrants ranging from $500 to $10,000. These grants aim to support projects in various areas such as STEM education, food security, affordable housing, sustainability, and digital skills training. Eligible applicants include individuals, schools, nonprofits, and local organizations. The nonprofit ChangeX will manage these funds and provide mentorship and resources through a 30-day challenge for those who receive funding. Applications are open until August 27, 2025.
“The most meaningful community solutions come from people with deep roots and firsthand knowledge of local needs,” said Afrika Alsup, Amazon’s community engagement manager. Alsup added that these funds empower grassroots leaders to create lasting positive change in their neighborhoods.
In early 2025, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to invest approximately $11 billion to expand its data center infrastructure in Georgia. This expansion focuses on supporting cloud computing and artificial intelligence technologies and is expected to generate at least 550 new technical jobs. AWS has been a significant contributor to Georgia’s economy since 2010 through previous operations that supported tens of thousands of jobs and billions in economic activity. The expansion also includes investments in renewable energy projects and educational programs aimed at workforce development.
Amazon provides a range of services including online shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution through platforms like Alexa and Fire TV, and cloud solutions via AWS. The company’s operations encompass logistics and customer service while delivering entertainment through Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
