Roger Wehner, Vice President of Economic Development at Amazon Web Services (AWS), said that the company’s multibillion-dollar investment in Georgia will generate more than 550 well-paying jobs and drive significant economic growth. This announcement was made in an official AWS press release.

“AWS’s ongoing infrastructure investments across the United States demonstrate our relentless commitment to powering our customers’ digital innovation through cloud and AI technologies,” said Wehner. “We are delighted to expand our infrastructure into Georgia with this planned multibillion-dollar investment, which we expect to create more than 550 well-paying jobs and drive significant economic growth for the state. State and local leaders have cultivated an environment that enables companies like AWS to make bold, forward-looking investments. We are excited to deepen our partnership with the state of Georgia and contribute to the continued advancement of its thriving technology landscape.”

According to the company, since 2010, Amazon has contributed $20.1 billion to Georgia’s gross domestic product and currently supports over 78,000 direct and indirect jobs across the state. AWS’s planned infrastructure expansion in Georgia is anticipated to create over 550 new high-skilled jobs in fields such as data center engineering and IT, while also supporting thousands more in construction, logistics, and the regional supply chain.

Amazon announced plans to create more than 100,000 new full-time jobs in the United States over an 18-month period. These roles offer full benefits and span various sectors including fulfillment centers, software development, logistics, and customer service. Many positions are accessible to individuals with varying levels of education and experience, underscoring Amazon’s role as one of the largest and most inclusive employers in the country.

Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $1.2 trillion in the U.S., encompassing infrastructure and employee compensation, contributing more than $1 trillion to national GDP. These investments have supported over 3 million jobs nationwide, including 1 million direct roles and over 2 million in areas such as construction, logistics, and professional services.

Wehner serves as Vice President of Economic Development at AWS where he leads regional infrastructure strategy and community engagement. He collaborates closely with state and local leaders to identify growth opportunities that align AWS’s cloud and AI expansion with long-term economic development, workforce training, and sustainability goals.
