A group of 16 software companies from Argentina will visit Atlanta next Monday as part of a technology-focused delegation. The initiative is organized under the Argentina Delivers platform, which highlights the work of Argentine firms providing near-shoring services to U.S. tech companies. The Consulate General of Argentina in Atlanta has made the city a frequent destination for these delegations.
Leading the delegation is Ambassador Alejandro “Alec” Oxenford, who was appointed by President Javier Milei in February after Gerardo Werthein left the post to become foreign minister. Unlike many diplomats, Oxenford has direct experience in the tech industry. He co-founded DeRemate, which was acquired by MercadoLibre—often compared to eBay in Latin America—in the late 1990s. He later founded OLX, an online classified marketplace active in countries such as Brazil, India, Romania, and other parts of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. In addition, he co-founded letgo in the United States; both OLX and letgo reached billion-dollar valuations at his exit.
During Monday’s event at 2 p.m., Ambassador Oxenford will deliver a keynote address before participating in a discussion with Larry Williams, president of the Technology Association of Georgia. “That discussion will be followed by a chance for Atlanta companies to hold curated ‘speed meetings’ with the visiting Argentine companies during what is being billed as a South Meets South forum,” according to organizers. “As an added perk, the event will serve as an Argentine wine tasting.”
Argentina positions itself as an important player in global technology markets. The country has more than 120,000 software developers and exports $8 billion worth of software services each year. It also has one of the highest proportions of English speakers among Latin American countries and has produced 14 unicorn startups such as Globant, Uala, Mural, and Auth0.
