The James Beard Foundation announced on Apr. 19 the finalists for its 2026 Restaurant and Chef Awards, naming Aria in Atlanta as a finalist for Outstanding Hospitality and J. Trent Harris of Mujō in Atlanta as a finalist for Best Chef: Southeast.

The James Beard Awards are considered one of the highest honors in the American culinary industry, recognizing excellence among restaurants and chefs since their inception in 1990. The awards help spotlight top professionals across the nation.

Winners will be honored at a ceremony scheduled for June 15, 2026, in Chicago. Being named a finalist is seen as significant recognition within the restaurant community.

Georgia was also represented among semifinalists announced earlier this year. Claudia Martinez of Bar ANA was recognized as an Outstanding Pastry Chef or Baker semifinalist; Lucky Star and Madeira Park were noted under Best New Bar; Taurean Philpott from Avize was highlighted for Outstanding Professional in Beverage Service; Miles Macquarrie from Kimball House was listed under Outstanding Professional in Cocktail Service; and Carlo Gan with Mia Orino (Kamayan ATL), Todd Schafer (Abel Brown), and Freddy Money (Atlas) were all included among Best Chef: Southeast semifinalists.

Although not all Georgia nominees advanced to the final round, reaching even the semifinals is regarded as an important achievement by many industry observers.
