Amazon has significantly impacted Georgia’s economy, according to Anila Yoganathan, a reporter for the Atlanta Business Chronicle. She said in a LinkedIn post that the company has created approximately 34,000 full- and part-time jobs in the state and invested over $18.5 billion since 2010.
“As of January 2024, Amazon Inc. has created about 34,000 full- and part-time jobs in Georgia,” said Yoganathan, according to LinkedIn. “Amazon has invested more than $18.5 billion in Georgia since 2010.”
According to the Georgia Department of Labor, logistics and distribution are crucial sectors in Georgia’s employment landscape. This is driven by Atlanta’s infrastructure and business environment, with major employers like Amazon contributing to the state’s competitive advantage in workforce development.
Amazon reports that as of 2024, its average starting wage for U.S. fulfillment and transportation roles exceeds $17.50 per hour, with wages in Georgia starting above local averages. Employees receive day-one benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, and access to Career Choice—Amazon’s education benefit that pre-pays tuition for in-demand career paths.
The company’s 2024 employee report emphasizes Amazon’s focus on safety through technology, training, and transparency. In 2023 alone, Amazon invested more than $750 million in safety initiatives and conducted over 1.2 million hours of safety training. Robotics and ergonomic improvements across sites aim to reduce injuries and support a safer workplace.
