The U.S. Census Bureau will release three key reports on income, poverty, and health insurance coverage in the United States for 2024 at an online news conference scheduled for September 9 at 10 a.m. EDT.
These reports—Income in the United States: 2024, Poverty in the United States: 2024, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2024—are based on data from the Current Population Survey Annual Social and Economic Supplement (CPS ASEC). The findings will provide national statistics to help assess economic trends and their impact on households, families, and individuals.
According to the Census Bureau, “National 2024 income statistics. Annual income, earnings and inequality estimates that can be used to evaluate national economic trends and their effect on the well-being of households, families and individuals.”
The reports also include updated figures for official poverty rates as well as Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) estimates. As stated by the Census Bureau, “National 2024 poverty statistics. Annual official poverty and Supplemental Poverty Measure (SPM) estimates to help gauge the economic well-being of households, families and individuals based on official poverty and SPM rates.”
In addition to income and poverty data, health insurance coverage statistics will be released. The agency notes that these are “Annual national-level health insurance coverage estimates that show coverage trends and examine health insurance status by select characteristics to better understand the well-being of individuals.”
A question-and-answer session will follow the presentation. Speakers include David Waddington, chief of the Social, Economic and Housing Statistics Division; Sharon Stern, assistant division chief for Employment Characteristics; Liana Fox, assistant division chief for Economic Characteristics; with Julie Iriondo moderating.
The event will take place virtually using Webex by Cisco. Media representatives can ask questions by phone during the session. More details about how to join are available at https://uscensusevents.webex.com/uscensusevents/j.php?MTID=m7e0f0fe492f905f5dbb5b500a6a5fcf7.
