The U.S. Census Bureau has announced a prerelease webinar for the 2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates, which are scheduled to be released to the public on September 11, 2025. The webinar aims to guide participants on how to access ACS data and resources, as well as offer advice on comparing statistics and geographies over time.

The ACS collects information about various aspects of the nation’s population and housing, including language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage or rent details, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. According to the Census Bureau, it is the only source providing local estimates for most of these topics.

Embargo subscribers will be able to access the one-year statistics starting September 9 at 10 a.m. ET. The embargoed data covers all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional districts, metropolitan statistical areas, and other geographic regions with populations of at least 65,000. The embargo period lasts until September 11 at 12:01 a.m. ET. Distribution services are not allowed to release news stories or data files before this date in accordance with the Census Bureau’s embargo policy. Public access to all datasets will begin by 10 a.m. ET on September 11.

Those interested in embargo access can register through the Census Bureau’s website at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.

The prerelease webinar is scheduled for Thursday, September 4 at 1 p.m. ET and will feature Caleb Hopler from the American Community Survey Office and Jewel Jordan from the Public Information Office. The session will include both an audio conference and online presentation format; attendees do not need to call in separately for audio access. Credentialed media members and data users can ask questions during and after the presentation using a Q&A feature or via audio.

Registration for the webinar is available at https://www.census.gov/data/academy/webinars/2025/2024-acs-1-year-estimates-prerelease.html.
