The U.S. Census Bureau has announced that the 2020-2024 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates will be available to embargo subscribers starting January 27 at 10 a.m. Eastern Time, with public release scheduled for January 29.
The ACS collects data on various aspects of the population and housing in the United States, including topics such as language spoken at home, education levels, commuting patterns, employment status, mortgage and rent details, income, poverty rates, and health insurance coverage. The survey is recognized as the only source providing local estimates for most of these subjects.
Embargoed access will allow subscribers to review statistics covering a wide range of geographic areas. These include all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, congressional and state legislative districts, metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas, counties, places, census tracts, block groups, and other geographies.
Subscribers will have access to the embargoed data from January 27 at 10 a.m. ET until January 29 at 12:01 a.m. ET. During this period, wire services and distribution channels are not permitted to share news stories or data files before the end of the embargo. The Census Bureau’s embargo policy provides further details on these restrictions.
All related data products—including those available on data.census.gov, through APIs, summary files, and additional tools—will become publicly accessible by 10 a.m. ET on January 29.
Those interested in obtaining embargo access can register online at www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/embargoed_releases.
