Delta Air Lines and Uber have announced a new phase in their partnership, introducing an airport drop-off pilot program at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The initiative aims to improve the travel experience for Delta customers while reducing congestion at the busy airport.

The pilot allows Delta customers using Uber to select “Express Drop Off, Checked-In” in the app. This option directs them to an outer curb drop-off area, where they are met with curbside hospitality, assistance with directions, a direct path to security, and limited-time giveaways. By redirecting vehicles to less crowded areas, both companies hope to ease traffic flow and provide added convenience for travelers.

“This pilot is a great example of how we’re using partnerships to solve real customer pain points and elevate their experience,” said Joshua Kaehler, managing director of loyalty partnerships at Delta. “We’re rethinking what the end-to-end travel experience should feel like, starting with more choice, convenience and the hospitality that reflects both the Delta and Uber brands.”

Insights gained from this program may lead to similar ground transportation initiatives at other major Delta hubs.

More than 1.4 million SkyMiles Members have linked their Delta and Uber accounts so far. These members can earn miles on eligible Uber rides and Uber Eats deliveries as part of the partnership’s ongoing benefits. The collaboration reflects Delta’s broader strategy of integrating travel with lifestyle services through technology.

Members who link their accounts automatically earn three miles per eligible dollar spent on Uber Reserve trips, two miles per dollar on premium rides such as Uber Comfort and Uber Black, one mile per dollar on standard airport rides via UberX, and one mile per dollar on qualifying restaurant or grocery orders over $40 made through Uber Eats.

Additionally, SkyMiles Members can access an exclusive in-flight offer: a 30% discount (up to $20) on their next Uber Reserve ride when booking through Delta Sync Wi-Fi during flights. Customers can schedule a ride while in flight by selecting Delta as their airline within the app; the reservation adjusts automatically if flight arrival times change.

Delta describes its approach as building a “lifestyle ecosystem” that rewards members not only for flying but also for everyday activities like commuting or ordering food.

Terms apply for all offers associated with the partnership. Miles earned are based on eligible purchases after returns or credits are subtracted; certain types of transactions such as fees or cash advances do not qualify. Miles are typically posted eight to twelve weeks after each month ends if member accounts remain active and in good standing.
