Delta Air Lines has reached a milestone by equipping its 1,000th aircraft with Delta Sync Wi-Fi, providing SkyMiles Members with fast and free internet access. This achievement marks a significant step in the airline’s ongoing efforts to offer a more connected and personalized experience for passengers.

According to Delta, it now operates more aircraft with free Wi-Fi than any other U.S. carrier. Over 100 million sessions have been logged on Delta Sync Wi-Fi so far. The company has worked closely with satellite partners to ensure each plane is equipped with technology that delivers consistent and reliable connectivity across its global network.

Delta Sync offers more than just basic internet access. The platform enables features such as members-only offers, exclusive content, and travel inspiration during flights. Passengers can also use Delta Sync seatback screens, which are designed to function like smart TVs at home.

New entertainment options have been added through partnerships with YouTube and Crunchyroll, joining existing services like Paramount+. These offerings aim to enhance the in-flight experience by providing varied content and exclusive deals that passengers can use after their journey.

“Delta’s commitment to delivering connectivity for every customer has been game-changing, both for our customers and for the industry at large,” said Ranjan Goswami, senior vice president of customer experience design. “We’re turning our planes into platforms, where customers can stay entertained, connected and informed from takeoff to landing. Delta Sync is the enabler that makes these personalized experiences and exclusive offers possible.”

The company plans further enhancements in the coming months. One new feature is Kids Map—an interactive program being introduced on select seatback screens—which provides games and quizzes designed for younger travelers. Another upcoming addition is Destination Stories, set to launch early next year on select flights; this will allow passengers to explore local attractions and book activities directly from their seatback screen before landing.

Delta Sync seatback functionality is expanding as well. It will soon be available on Boeing 737-900 aircraft through a limited rollout beginning early next year, making personalized experiences accessible on older hardware models. Currently, over 300 aircraft across six fleet types offer this service, accounting for about 45% of in-flight entertainment (IFE) boardings.

The rollout continues across other fleets such as Boeing 737-800s and will extend next year to widebody planes including the 767-300 and A350-900 models.

SkyMiles Members benefit from tailored experiences; recognized members are greeted by name on their seatback screens after entering their birthdate information—a feature intended to personalize entertainment choices and exclusive offers.

Passengers flying in domestic Delta One or First Class cabins can now browse interactive food and beverage menus via their seatback screens. This allows them to view meal options based on route or time of day along with detailed product descriptions tailored to dietary needs. Expansion of this feature is planned for additional routes in 2026.

“Delivering on this vision meant rethinking what was possible in-flight,” said Glenn Latta, managing director of In-flight Entertainment and Connectivity. “Now, thanks to the innovation and perseverance of Delta people, we’ve built a platform that meets today’s expectations and anticipates tomorrow’s.”

By achieving this scale of free Wi-Fi deployment, Delta aims to set a new standard for onboard connectivity within the aviation industry.
