Delta Air Lines has introduced new travel experiences and refreshed products, effective October 1. The airline now offers three experience options—Basic, Classic, and Extra—for Delta Main cabin travelers. For those flying in Delta Comfort and higher cabins, only Classic and Extra are available. The Extra experience is currently offered on flights originating from the United States and Canada, as well as select international locations.

For customers who purchased a Basic Economy ticket (now called “Delta Main Basic”) or a non-refundable ticket (now called “Classic”), there will be no change to their travel experience. Those who bought a Refundable ticket for travel on or after October 1 in markets where Extra is available will automatically receive the Extra experience at no additional action required.

Delta clarified that travel experiences cannot be modified after purchase. However, travelers may cancel their itinerary and book a new one if they wish to change their selected experience, subject to applicable fees or fare differences. Product upgrades, such as moving from Delta Main to Delta Comfort or Delta First, are permitted post-purchase for customers traveling in Classic or Extra experiences. In these cases, the original experience classification remains consistent throughout the journey. Customers with a Basic travel experience are not eligible for product upgrades but can purchase seat assignments within their current product if available.

The updated offerings are part of broader changes in Delta’s booking platform and mobile app. The Fly Delta app now includes features such as live flight updates and the ability to redeem Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates.

Regarding route availability, rebranded experiences—Basic and Classic—are available across the Delta system, though Basic is subject to availability. The new Extra experience is limited to itineraries starting in the U.S., Canada, or select international markets; otherwise, customers will see the legacy Refundable product.

Upgrade eligibility for Medallion Members continues to depend primarily on Medallion Status and product purchased. If multiple members have equivalent status and purchased the same product, those with an Extra experience will receive priority.

Customers purchasing Extra receive higher boarding priority within Delta Main (Zone 5), earn base mileage at seven miles per dollar spent (excluding taxes and fees), get full refundability of unused tickets back to the original payment method, and access Same-Day Confirmed flight changes where available in the U.S. and Canada.

If customers do not see their purchased Extra experience reflected in My Trips online, Delta states that benefits like boarding zone and other perks should still be correctly applied by its systems.
