Delta Air Lines has announced it will match SkyMiles member-donated miles through its SkyWish Program to benefit the Fisher House Foundation’s Hero Miles program and Luke’s Wings’ No Service Member Spends The Holidays Alone campaign during November, which is recognized as National Veterans and Military Families Month. This marks the 11th consecutive year Delta is participating in this initiative, with a commitment to match up to 10 million miles donated to these two organizations.
The donated miles help provide air travel for wounded, injured, or ill service members and veterans, as well as their families, while they undergo treatment and recovery. Veterans Day falls on November 11.
“For the 11th year, Delta is proud to partner with our customers to give back to the men and women who have sacrificed so much for others,” said Tad Hutcheson, Managing Director – Community Engagement. “Through this partnership, we are able to aid in the healing process by connecting injured veterans and service members with their loved ones at the time they need it most.”
Fisher House Foundation has saved military and veteran families over $650 million since its founding by providing free lodging near major military and Department of Veterans Affairs medical centers in more than 100 locations across the U.S. and Europe. Delta has supported building five Fisher House facilities, including locations in California, Washington State, New York City, and Detroit.
Luke’s Wings has provided complimentary airfare for wounded or ill service members, veterans, and their families since 2008. To date, it has arranged over 17,000 flights with a goal of adding another 2,000 flights in 2025. The organization aims to ensure that no travel costs prevent military families from being together during recovery.
Delta employs many veterans; about 12 percent of its workforce currently serves or has served in the armed forces. Beyond Fisher House Foundation and Luke’s Wings, Delta supports several other organizations focused on military personnel and veterans such as Armed Services YMCA of Alaska; Best Defense Foundation; Camp Southern Ground; Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation; Folds of Honor Foundation; Johnny Mac Soldiers Fund; Marine Toys for Tots Foundation; Operation Healing Forces; USO; Veterans Empowerment Organization in Atlanta; WWII Foundation; as well as airport lounges dedicated to serving military personnel in cities like Detroit, Miami, and Minneapolis.
The company also maintains a Veterans Business Resource Group that works toward fostering an inclusive workplace aligned with Delta’s core values by supporting professional development opportunities for employees who are veterans or active service members.
