Delta Air Lines is promoting the use of its mobile app as a way for travelers to save time and streamline their airport experience during the busy holiday season. The airline highlights several features within the Delta app that are designed to help customers manage their travel more efficiently.

One feature, App Bag Drop, is now available at major airports including Atlanta (ATL), Boston (BOS), New York-JFK (JFK), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP), and Seattle (SEA). With this service, passengers who have checked in and added their bags through the app can use a dedicated lane at these airports to print bag tags and drop off luggage, bypassing longer lines at the main check-in counters. Delta plans to expand this service to all its hub airports by the end of the year.

Travelers can also redeem SkyMiles toward checked bag fees on flights departing from select U.S. airports by choosing “Pay with Miles” during check-in in the app.

The app allows international travelers to upload essential documents like passports before arriving at the airport, speeding up check-in procedures. Beginning in December, SkyMiles Members will be able to scan and store their passport information in their profile for future trips, though they are reminded to bring physical passports when traveling internationally. Users can also update their Known Traveler Number directly in the app for expedited security screening.

Interactive airport maps within the app help users locate gates, lounges, and amenities quickly by accessing maps from their boarding pass screen.

For those with access to Delta Sky Clubs, an occupancy tracker shows real-time lounge crowd levels so customers can choose less crowded locations for a break between flights. Occupancy data updates every 10 minutes within the “Delta Sky Club” section of the app.

Delta is also beta-testing an AI-powered travel assistant called Delta Concierge exclusively for SkyMiles Members, with further rollout planned for 2026.

If flight plans change due to delays or cancellations, passengers can list themselves on standby for earlier nonstop domestic flights directly through the app without needing assistance from customer service representatives or waiting in line. This feature enables travelers to view available flights and track standby status in real time.

According to Delta Air Lines, over 97% of SkyMiles Medallion Members use the Delta app as part of their day-of-travel experience.

“Whatever your travel profile, discover how the app can help you breeze through the airport and focus on what matters most: enjoying your journey.”
