A new guide from Delta Air Lines outlines how travelers can maximize their paid time off (PTO) in 2026 by aligning it with holidays and long weekends. The airline has identified key dates throughout the year where using minimal PTO days can result in longer vacations, both domestically and internationally.

For example, taking one PTO day around New Year’s Day allows for a four-day trip to cities like New York or Seattle. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents’ Day weekends are highlighted as opportunities for trips to Austin, Los Angeles, Cancun, or Miami without needing additional PTO.

Delta suggests Memorial Day weekend is ideal for visiting San Diego, Nashville, or Raleigh-Durham. For those seeking longer international trips, the period from June 19 to July 5—using nine PTO days—opens up travel to destinations such as Sydney, Melbourne, Seoul, Hong Kong, or Taipei. Alternatively, shorter itineraries during this window are possible with fewer PTO days.

The airline also points out new nonstop flights to Malta, Sardinia, and Porto starting in 2026. According to Delta Air Lines’ official website, the company connects more than 350 destinations worldwide and operates a diverse fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft to support its global routes.

Other recommended travel windows include Labor Day for visits to Seattle or Boston; Columbus Day for New York City, San Diego, or Nashville; Veterans Day for Dublin or Marrakech; Thanksgiving week for Paris, Amsterdam, or London; and the Christmas/New Year period for Honolulu or Maui.

To assist customers in planning these trips, Delta promotes its Discover Map tool. This resource helps travelers explore available destinations across Delta’s network and provides information on visa requirements and flight options. The airline emphasizes that SkyMiles members have access to additional benefits such as car rentals and cruises through Delta Cars & Stays and Delta Cruises.

Delta Air Lines traces its origins back to crop-dusting operations in 1925 before launching scheduled passenger flights in 1929. Today it is headquartered in Atlanta and serves millions of passengers each year with a focus on reliable air travel across an extensive global network (source).

“Whether it’s a long weekend close to home or a once-a-year international adventure, thoughtful PTO planning can unlock more opportunities to explore. With Delta’s global network, your calendar might be the best travel inspiration you already have.”
