Delta Air Lines has announced the introduction of Delta Comfort Basic, a new fare option available for booking starting November 6, 2025, for travel beginning November 19. The new product is part of the Delta Comfort line and will be offered on select domestic routes operated and marketed by Delta.
Delta Comfort Basic is aimed at travelers seeking extra legroom and certain premium amenities at a lower price point, but with some restrictions. According to the company, customers who choose this fare will receive the same onboard benefits as other Delta Comfort options—such as more legroom, dedicated overhead bin space, Zone 3 boarding, and complimentary wine, beer, and spirits on most flights. However, seats are assigned after check-in and upgrades are not available with this fare. Customers looking for more flexibility or the ability to select their seat in advance may prefer higher-tier options like Comfort Classic or Extra.
A Delta spokesperson explained: “Delta Comfort Basic is a new travel experience within the Delta Comfort product line, designed for customers who want the extra legroom and premium onboard experience of Delta Comfort—but at a lower price point, and with a few familiar restrictions.”
The airline highlighted that each tier within its comfort products offers varying levels of benefits and flexibility to allow travelers to choose according to their preferences.
When comparing Delta Comfort Basic to Main Basic fares, several differences were noted. While both assign seats after check-in and do not allow upgrades or award bookings using miles, Delta Comfort Basic includes additional features such as increased legroom, earlier boarding (Zone 3 instead of Zone 8), eligibility for Sky Club access with valid credentials, mileage earning (2 miles per dollar spent excluding taxes and fees), complimentary alcoholic beverages on most flights, and dedicated overhead bin space.
As stated by Delta: “While both fares assign seats after check-in, are not eligible for upgrades and are subject to change or cancel fees, Delta Comfort Basic offers several premium benefits not available with Main Basic: More legroom ; Zone 3 boarding (vs. Zone 8 for Main Basic) ; Eligibility for Delta Sky Club access (with valid entry credentials such as a Delta Sky Club membership or a qualifying credit card) ; Ability to earn Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) and miles with SkyMiles (2 miles per dollar spent, excluding taxes and fees) ; Complimentary wine, beer and spirits on most flights ; Dedicated overhead bin space.”
Delta also clarified that the new fare will not be available on all flights. “No; Delta Comfort Basic is currently available only on very select Delta-marketed and operated domestic itineraries. If you don’t see Delta Comfort Basic as an option during booking, it means it’s not currently available for that flight or route,” the company said.
Bookings for this new fare class open two weeks ahead of first travel dates in order to give operational teams time to prepare. “The 14-day advance purchase booking window allows time for our operational teams to prepare and ensure they are able to deliver on the new experience. It also gives you, the customer, extra time to understand the Delta Comfort Basic experience and know what to expect before your flight,” according to the statement.
Delta confirmed that these tickets cannot be purchased using frequent flyer miles but must be bought as revenue tickets: “No, Delta Comfort Basic is only available for revenue tickets and not for Award bookings (e.g., for purchase with miles). However, Delta Main Basic is available for Award tickets.”
Further details about availability can be found on Delta’s website or through its mobile app.
