Delta Air Lines will introduce Embraer jets on its routes to Aspen this November, replacing the CRJ-700 aircraft previously used by its Delta Connection partner, SkyWest. The move comes ahead of the winter ski season and is intended to address several challenges for travelers heading to the popular Colorado destination.
“Aspen is one of the most iconic ski destinations in the world, and we’re making sure your travel experience matches the magic of the mountains,” said Amy Martin – Vice President – Network Planning. “This aircraft change isn’t just about a new look, it’s about solving real challenges for our customers and enhancing every leg of the journey.”
The new Embraer jets feature a larger cargo hold, which is expected to reduce issues related to transporting bulky ski equipment and winter gear. This upgrade aims to make it easier for passengers to bring skis, snowboards, and other items needed for their trips.
Additionally, Delta says baggage capacity and handling will improve with these jets—a factor that is particularly important at high-demand airports such as Aspen. The cabin interiors are designed for greater comfort, offering more personal space, larger windows, and a quieter ride compared to the previous aircraft.
The airline also notes that Embraer jets offer enhanced operational reliability in mountain environments like Aspen’s, where weather and terrain can pose unique challenges.
All SkyWest flights operating as Delta Connection from Atlanta (ATL) and Los Angeles (LAX) to Aspen (ASE) will be affected by this fleet change. According to Delta, this update reflects its ongoing commitment to providing a premium experience for customers traveling during ski season or throughout the year.
