UGA Presents will host the Finnish band Frigg for a concert in Athens on January 24 at 7:30 p.m. The event marks the group’s 25th anniversary and features their signature blend of Nordic folk traditions with global roots influences, a style described as “nordgrass.” This genre combines Scandinavian folk music with elements from bluegrass, Celtic, Balkan, and American roots music.

Frigg is known for its virtuosic string playing and energetic performances. The band’s lineup includes three violins, mandolin, guitar, and double bass. Since releasing their debut album in 2002, Frigg has performed internationally at festivals such as WOMADelaide, Cambridge Folk Festival, Rainforest World Music Festival, and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Their music has been broadcast to wide audiences through programs like “A Prairie Home Companion” and NHK World Japan. Frigg’s albums have frequently appeared on the World Music Charts Europe and the Transglobal World Music Chart. They have also been featured several times on Songlines magazine’s Top of the World list.

In 2025, Frigg began a new phase with a new album, collaborations, and an expanded six-member lineup. The Athens performance will include selections from their recent albums “Heritage” and “Dreamscapes.”

A free pre-performance talk by a member of Frigg will take place in Ramsey Concert Hall from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m.

The concert is supported by Rhonda Lucile Hicks and is part of the Nordic Dream: Voices from Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden series.
