Thirty-six communities in Georgia have been selected to receive more than $36.2 million in federal grants, according to an announcement from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA). The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and is distributed annually through Georgia’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which DCA administers.
Of the total funds awarded this year, $32.2 million will be used for infrastructure projects, while $3.9 million will go toward building projects in these communities.
“Community Development Block Grants allow rural Georgians to have access to resources that strengthen their infrastructure, enhance community facilities, and improve overall quality of life,” said Commissioner Nunn. “These grants ensure that local governments are given every opportunity to thrive. When our communities and facilities thrive, so do their citizens.”
The CDBG program targets non-entitlement local governments, focusing especially on rural areas. Applications are evaluated through a competitive process based on merit before funding decisions are made.
“Community Development Block Grants are an important tool for Georgia’s communities to improve infrastructure,” said DCA Director of Community Finance Kimberly Carter. “This year’s grantees will be able to use these awards to bolster their infrastructure and housing needs.”

The DCA works with communities across the state to support neighborhood development, job creation, affordable housing initiatives, and assistance programs for qualified residents.
