Georgia Power has concluded its Generation Appreciation Month, recognizing the work of more than 1,100 professionals who maintain reliable energy service throughout the state. During August, the company highlighted employees who support electricity generation in various roles and promoted career opportunities within this sector.
The company expects significant growth in electrical demand by 2030, projecting an increase of about 8,500 megawatts. To meet this demand, Georgia Power has requested certification for an additional 9,900 megawatts from the Public Service Commission. This expansion is expected to create over 100 new jobs to operate upcoming facilities safely and reliably.
Ongoing training is a key part of Georgia Power’s workforce development. Employees participate in continuous learning at the Rockmart training facility, which scheduled 3,629 hours of instruction this year for technicians and plant operators.
Leadership within the generation team includes Rick Anderson, senior vice president and senior production officer. Anderson emphasized the sense of purpose among employees: “As an engineer, there are few careers that are as fulfilling as working in a power plant as part of a team that is responsible for generating electricity that powers daily lives of our neighbors and communities. You are truly a part of something bigger than yourself,” said Anderson. “I’m privileged to be a part of an exceptional group of teammates across this great state who share a dedication of safety serving our customers around the clock. As we continue to expand our diverse energy mix to serve a growing Georgia, I know our generation team is ready to meet the challenge both today and tomorrow.”
Georgia Power reports that its generation fleet remains among the most efficient nationally. In 2024, operational teams at hydroelectric, natural gas, nuclear, and coal-fired plants maintained high standards for operations and maintenance. The company achieved one of its best historical equivalent forced outage rates last year at just 1.35%.
Looking ahead, Georgia Power plans to continue expanding its energy resources to address increasing demand across Georgia. The company encourages those interested in joining its workforce to visit their website for information on available positions.
