Georgia Power and the Atlanta Falcons have launched the Light Up the Holidays Contest, aiming to engage Georgia residents in celebrating the holiday season. The contest runs from November 28 through December 12 and invites participants to share their festive decorations or acts of community service on Georgia Power’s Instagram page.

To enter, individuals must follow @ga_power on Instagram, comment on the contest announcement post explaining how they or a friend are “lighting up the holidays,” tag two friends, and post an original festive photo using the hashtags #GeorgiaPower and #ShowYourGlow. Finalists will be contacted via Instagram after submissions close. Public voting for finalists will take place from December 15 to December 22, with winners announced on December 27.

Prizes include four sideline tickets to an Atlanta Falcons game against the New Orleans Saints at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in January, a $5,000 donation by Georgia Power to a charity of choice for first place (within specified nonprofit organizations), hotel accommodations in Atlanta valued at $600 as a VISA gift card, energy savings kits, and items from the Atlanta Falcons. Second-place winners receive a $2,000 charitable donation and other rewards, while runners-up receive admission to local holiday light shows and additional prizes.

Participation is open to legal Georgia residents aged 18 years or older. Full rules are available online.

Georgia Power also offers advice for staying safe and efficient during the holidays. The company recommends using LED lights instead of traditional incandescent decorations due to their lower energy use and longer lifespan. Customers are encouraged to inspect light sets for damage before use, avoid overloading electrical outlets or extension cords, use timers for decorations when possible, never leave space heaters unattended, keep them away from flammable materials, avoid using electric blankets while sleeping or under other items, and exercise caution when using ladders near power lines.

Additional recommendations include replacing air filters regularly and maintaining caulking or weather stripping around doors and windows. Keeping thermostats set around 68 degrees can help maintain comfort while saving energy.
