Georgia Tech has improved its position in the latest U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges 2026 rankings, moving up to No. 32 among national universities. This new ranking puts Georgia Tech alongside institutions such as New York University and the University of California, Davis. The Institute maintained its place at No. 9 among top public national universities and received several No. 1 rankings in specific academic categories.
“Georgia Tech has emerged as a unique case in American higher education — an institution that delivers some of the best student outcomes in the nation while growing at a record pace in terms of enrollment, degrees granted, and research,” said Georgia Tech President Ángel Cabrera. “I am delighted to see rankings like these recognize Georgia Tech among the best public universities in the nation, and I invite families, students, employers, and corporate partners to reach out and learn more about what we’re doing here.”
In undergraduate engineering programs, Georgia Tech rose to No. 3 overall from last year’s No. 4 ranking. For the first time, three individual engineering programs—biomedical engineering, environmental engineering, and industrial and manufacturing engineering—were ranked No. 1 simultaneously; industrial and manufacturing engineering has held this position for 25 consecutive years.
In computer science, Georgia Tech achieved its highest-ever national ranking at No. 5 overall. The Institute also took the top spot for mobile/web applications and remained within the top ten for artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, programming languages, and theory.
The Scheller College of Business was ranked No. 19 nationally. Its management information systems program climbed to No. 2 (tied with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and University of Arizona), accounting moved up to No. 40 from last year’s No. 48 placement, and marketing appeared on the list for the first time at No. 36.
Georgia Tech was also recognized for aspects related to student experience: it was named No. 16 for Best Colleges for Veterans (the same as last year) and ranked third nationally for internships and co-ops—a reflection of its focus on practical learning opportunities for students.
The senior capstone experience held steady at twelfth place nationwide; undergraduate teaching improved by ten spots to reach twenty-first place; innovation remained strong with a third-place ranking among Most Innovative Universities; psychology entered the top forty at thirty-third after moving up thirty places.
The summary includes only those rankings released by U.S. News & World Report; not every college or subject area within Georgia Tech is evaluated each year by this organization.
