This summer, Georgia Tech has introduced a new minor in Business of Sports and Entertainment. The program is a collaboration between the Scheller College of Business and the Ivan College of Liberal Arts, offering undergraduates an opportunity to explore careers related to sports and entertainment.

Georgia Tech’s location in Atlanta provides students with access to major sporting events and entertainment venues. Atlanta regularly hosts significant events such as the College Football National Championship and is home to several professional sports teams. The entertainment industry also plays a major role in the state’s economy, contributing $14 billion annually and supporting over 40,000 jobs, according to a 2021 TAG Media and Entertainment Ecosystem Report (https://www.tagonline.org/news-press/press-releases/tag-releases-2021-media-entertainment-ecosystem-report/).

Richard “Dick” Bergmark, IM 1975, HON Ph.D. 2022, who was a former swimming and diving student-athlete at Georgia Tech and has supported both academic and athletic initiatives through philanthropy, expressed his enthusiasm for the new program. “My management degree gave me the foundation for my career,” he said. “I’m thankful for both the academic and athletic experiences I had at Georgia Tech. Supporting the next generation is a great way for me to give back.”

The program includes specific requirements for completion.
