The University of Georgia football team secured its second consecutive Southeastern Conference (SEC) championship with a 28-7 victory over Alabama on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game, attended by more than 77,000 spectators, saw the Bulldogs take control for much of the contest, avenging their earlier season loss to Alabama.

This win marks Georgia’s 16th SEC title in program history. The last meeting between the two teams ended in a close 24-21 defeat for Georgia in Athens in September.

Following the championship win, the College Football Playoff selection committee ranked Georgia as the No. 3 seed. This seeding grants the Bulldogs a bye in the first round of the College Football Playoff. They will face either Ole Miss or Tulane on January 1 in the Sugar Bowl.
