Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters in Atlanta following a shooting incident that resulted in the death of DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose. The attack occurred on Friday and caused damage to several buildings at the CDC’s Roybal Campus, including the main guard booth.
During his visit, Secretary Kennedy was accompanied by Health and Human Services Deputy Secretary Jim O’Neill and CDC Director Susan Monarez. Security staff led them through the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage.
Secretary Kennedy also met with DeKalb County Police Chief Greg Padrick and later spoke privately with Officer Rose’s widow. He expressed condolences and emphasized support for those affected by the incident. In a statement posted on X, Secretary Kennedy said, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting at CDC’s Atlanta campus that took the life of officer David Rose. We stand with his wife and three children and the entire CDC family.”
In response to the incident, most personnel assigned to Roybal Campus are working remotely this week while additional safety measures are being implemented before their return.
The CDC continues its mission to protect public health by providing timely information, identifying disease outbreaks, and supporting local initiatives throughout the United States.
