IAM District 6 members have increased their involvement in supporting homeless veterans by making the Des Moines Stand Down an official District HELPS event in 2025. Members from IAM Locals across the district contributed funds, which were matched by District 6, resulting in a total of $1,150 and additional donated supplies for the event. According to organizers, $750 is enough to provide 500 meals for those in need.

Thirteen IAM members representing three Locals volunteered at the event, with some traveling over three hours to participate. Their roles included assisting with registration, food service, security, cleanup, and water delivery. The event served more than 500 people, including both veterans and civilians.

“Our veterans deserve more than gratitude, they deserve action,” said IAM Midwest Territory General Vice President Sam Cicinelli. “I’m proud of the IAM members in District 6 who stepped up to honor their service by ensuring they and their families receive the support they need.”

IAM volunteers worked alongside others to ensure that veterans and their families received care, meals, and essential services during the event. District 6 has encouraged other IAM districts and locals to consider supporting Homeless Veterans Stand Down events within their own communities.
