The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM Union), representing 600 members, has announced its opposition to the current nominations for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). The union is calling on the U.S. Senate to delay any action on the nominations of Crystal Carey for General Counsel, and Scott Mayer and James Murphy for NLRB Members, until Gwynne Wilcox, a former NLRB Member, is reinstated.
Wilcox, who was reconfirmed by the Senate in September 2023 for a term set to expire in August 2028, was dismissed by President Donald Trump. The IAM Union claims her firing was unjust and calls for her immediate reinstatement.
“As I’ve stated before, the IAM urges President Donald Trump to reverse the unprecedented and illegal firing of NLRB Member Wilcox, restore the Board’s independence, and protect workers’ rights,” IAM Union International President Brian Bryant wrote in a letter to members of the U.S. Senate. “The NLRB, with Board members from both political parties, is crucial to the rights of our nation’s private-sector workforce, and without this balance, enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act cannot occur in a fair or impartial way.”
The IAM Union stresses the importance of having Board members from both major political parties to maintain fair and unbiased enforcement of labor laws.
