Mellow Mushroom plans to reopen its Decatur location this fall as a flagship store after renovations. The updated restaurant will feature new exterior and interior designs, murals by local artist Ben Janik, refreshed bar and patio areas, and a dedicated to-go window.

Founded in Atlanta in 1974, Mellow Mushroom has expanded to 160 locations across 16 states. Most of these are locally owned and operated, allowing each restaurant to reflect the character of its community while maintaining the brand’s signature style.

The Decatur store first opened in 2016 on W. Ponce de Leon Ave. When it reopens, it will operate as a company-owned location rather than a franchise. This site is set to become the brand’s flagship full-service store due to its proximity to Mellow Mushroom’s Atlanta headquarters. The company plans to test exclusive menu items at this location before considering them for nationwide rollout.

“Mellow Mushroom is Atlanta-founded and -based, and we’re committed to our presence in Decatur alongside the city’s vibrant community spirit,” said Ahsan Jiva, EVP of Strategy at Mellow Mushroom. “This location means a lot to Mellow Mushroom, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to return with new energy, reconnect and deliver the best-possible guest experience for the neighborhood.”

The menu at Mellow Mushroom includes hand-tossed stone-baked pizzas, calzones, hoagies, salads, sweets, gluten-free and vegan options. The bar offers specialty cocktails and mocktails as well as wines and local beers.
