Mercedes-Benz has announced a significant expansion of its North American headquarters in Sandy Springs, metro Atlanta. The company plans to create up to 500 new jobs as part of this move, further establishing the region as a center for innovation and skilled labor.
The expansion will consolidate key corporate roles by relocating positions from California and Detroit to the Sandy Springs location. This decision highlights metro Atlanta’s growing importance in the automotive industry, which has traditionally been centered in Detroit.
Mercedes-Benz is also investing in a new research and development center near its existing campus. The facility aims to drive innovation and provide additional high-skilled employment opportunities.
Gregg Simon, senior vice president of project and partner development at the Metro Atlanta Chamber, commented on the development: “This project is a great example of why companies choose metro Atlanta. What began with Mercedes’ headquarters relocation in 2015 has evolved into a decade of growth — from the stadium partnership to expansions in Sandy Springs and the new R&D hub at Georgia Tech. It’s a true reflection of the strong economic development partnerships and shared commitment that drive success across our region.”
Other major automotive companies have also established or expanded their presence in Georgia. Porsche’s North American headquarters is located near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Rivian is setting up its East Coast headquarters along the Beltline and building a $5 billion manufacturing plant on the outskirts of metro Atlanta. Hyundai is developing an electric vehicle manufacturing facility near Savannah, taking advantage of one of the country’s busiest logistics centers. Kia maintains a large plant in West Point, contributing significantly to Georgia’s manufacturing sector.
These investments are part of broader trends that have led Georgia to be recognized as the top state for business for twelve years running.
