The Georgia Office of the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner (OCI) has announced that Commissioner John F. King has approved significant rate reductions, leading to additional insurance savings for Liberty Mutual and Safeco customers throughout Georgia.

According to a press release by the OCI, the office approved further auto insurance rate reductions for three insurers following regulatory review and negotiations. Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois received a 5.1% decrease, Safeco Insurance Company of Indiana a 4.9% decrease, and Liberty Mutual Personal Insurance Company a 5.7% decrease. These approved filings apply to Georgia policyholders and reflect updated pricing adjustments submitted to the OCI.

The reductions coincide with expanded enforcement efforts by the Commissioner’s office aimed at reducing insurance fraud and abuse statewide. They also align with recent legislative changes addressing lawsuit-related costs, which are intended to improve market conditions, support insurer participation, and promote greater long-term affordability for insurance consumers in Georgia.

“These reductions are the latest addition in a developing trend of major insurance savings for Georgia families, showcasing the state’s growing and competitive industry,” said Commissioner King. “As we continue the OCI mission to build a fair and affordable insurance marketplace, I am confident that we will see rates further decline across Georgia.”

The OCI is responsible for overseeing insurance regulation and building safety in Georgia, aiming to protect families and ensure access to essential insurance products through fair oversight that supports economic opportunity. John F. King has served as Commissioner since 2019 — the first Hispanic statewide official in Georgia — and was elected to a full term in 2022. His background includes decades in law enforcement, including serving as Doraville’s chief of police, along with a distinguished military career as a U.S. Army major general.
