The Georgia Office of the Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner (OCI) has announced significant rate reductions for State Farm auto customers in Georgia, averaging more than 10% over the past year.
According to a press release by OCI, State Farm’s latest auto insurance filing has been approved, resulting in an additional 3% rate decrease for Georgia policyholders. This brings the total reductions negotiated over the past year to more than 10%. OCI estimates that these changes will reduce statewide premium costs by approximately $400 million annually, with the average driver saving about $190 per insured vehicle.
OCI reports that these reductions are part of broader agency initiatives currently underway, including efforts targeting insurance fraud and abusive practices. The agency also notes that early effects of lawsuit abuse reforms advanced by Commissioner John F. King during the 2025 legislative session are beginning to influence overall market conditions. These reforms contribute to what OCI describes as a more stable and sustainable insurance environment.
“I promised on day one that I would not only fight for Georgia families to have coverage options but affordable options at that,” said King. “That’s what we’re delivering today. We’re going to continue fighting to position Georgia as a national leader in affordable coverage, marketplace stability, and strong protections for families.”
The OCI is responsible for overseeing insurance regulation and building safety in Georgia, aiming to protect families and ensure access to essential insurance products through fair oversight supporting economic opportunity. John F. King has served as Commissioner since 2019 — the first Hispanic statewide official in Georgia — and was elected to a full term in 2022. His background includes decades in law enforcement, serving as Doraville’s chief of police, and a distinguished military career as a U.S. Army major general. King holds advanced degrees in criminal justice and strategic studies and has completed national and international security training programs.
