For almost 40 years, “College GameDay Built by The Home Depot” has been a staple for college football fans. On August 30, ESPN and The Home Depot will honor broadcaster Lee Corso as he retires from the show. Corso will make his last headgear pick live in Columbus, Ohio, where he first started the tradition in 1996. This event will conclude his 38-season career on the program.
To recognize Corso’s contributions, ESPN and The Home Depot will introduce a special logo for this broadcast: “College GameDay Built by The Home Depot and Lee Corso,” featuring Corso’s signature with The Home Depot branding. This gesture aims to thank him for his influence on both the show and its viewers.
“Lee embodies everything that makes college football so special: tradition, personality and a love for the game,” said Molly Battin, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at The Home Depot. “It is a privilege for us to stand alongside ESPN in recognizing his contributions to the sport and to generations of fans.”
Since their partnership began in 2003, The Home Depot has worked with ESPN to make College GameDay an important part of college football culture. One of its most well-known features has been Corso’s weekly headgear picks, which have become a much-anticipated segment among fans.
“Lee Corso’s energy and passion have defined Saturday mornings for college football fans everywhere,” said Andrew Messina, senior vice president – sales, Disney Advertising. “For more than 20 years Disney and The Home Depot have brought College GameDay to life each weekend and we’re overjoyed to collaborate on this one-of-a-kind tribute to celebrate his incredible legacy.”
Fans can watch this milestone broadcast live from Columbus or tune in on ESPN on August 30.
