The Home Depot has announced the expansion of its smart home platform, Hubspace, aiming to provide comprehensive whole-home connectivity. Initially launched as a collection of individual smart products, Hubspace has evolved into an integrated ecosystem that does not require complex hubs or professional installation.
With the introduction of Hubspace 2.0 and its new Connect technology, users can now link switches and dimmers directly with Hubspace-enabled lights across different circuits. This advancement reduces the need for rewiring and simplifies setup for both homeowners and professionals. The system is powered by Afero’s IoT platform, which also enhances security.
A common issue in smart lighting—loss of control when a wall switch is turned off—is addressed by Hubspace Connect. Instead of cutting power to bulbs, digital commands are sent directly to the lights, ensuring continued app or voice control even if the physical switch is off.
Additional features include Vacation Mode, which cycles lights and plugs at random intervals to create a lived-in appearance; Circadian Lighting, which adjusts color temperatures throughout the day; Warm Dimming for incandescent-like glow at lower light levels; and Logarithmic Brightness Control for smoother dimming transitions.
At CES 2026, The Home Depot announced new partnerships. A collaboration with Kwikset will introduce a new smart lock powered by Hubspace in 2026. Additionally, Texas Instruments chips will be integrated into future products to support a U.S.-sourced supply chain.
Nick Millette, product development merchant for smart home at The Home Depot, stated: “We are incredibly excited to expand the Hubspace portfolio through strategic partnerships with national leaders like Kwikset and Texas Instruments. By combining Home Depot’s product authority and Afero’s seamless platform with world-class hardware, we are making a truly simple, secure, and affordable smart home accessible to every Home Depot customer.”
Hubspace emphasizes ease of use through quick setup via QR code scanning in under a minute. The platform consolidates control over more than 200 products within one app and aims to make home automation accessible across different budgets.
Hubspace-enabled products are available exclusively at The Home Depot stores and online.
