The Home Depot has launched Material List Builder AI, a new tool designed to help professional contractors and tradespeople quickly generate comprehensive material lists for their projects. The technology uses artificial intelligence to interpret project details and produce organized lists of necessary materials, aiming to save time and reduce errors.

Previously, professionals often spent hours searching for the correct products, comparing prices, and manually creating lists across various platforms. The new system allows users to input project information in several ways: by typing out descriptions in natural language, using voice-to-text features on-site or while traveling, pasting existing lists from other documents, or starting with templates for common jobs such as bathroom or kitchen renovations.

After inputting the details, users receive a draft list grouped by project phase. They can review and edit this list before accepting it. Once finalized, the tool provides product recommendations that include preferred pricing and current inventory availability. Users can then order materials directly through The Home Depot’s platform. Lists are saved within the tool for easy reuse on future projects.

Material List Builder AI is available at no cost to Pro Xtra members via The Home Depot’s Project Planning tool.

Mike Rowe, executive vice president of Pro for The Home Depot, stated: “Pros often tell us that their most valuable resource for any job is time, so we’re focused on delivering solutions that empower Pros to work smarter and faster. Material List Builder AI generates reliable, comprehensive job lists in a fraction of the time it would take to complete this process manually, and Pros can then spend more time focused on their customers and the job at hand.”

The company also offers additional services tailored for professional clients. These include trade credit options for flexible financing; order management and delivery services such as same-day or scheduled delivery; customizable account management; dedicated sales support; and preferred pricing on frequently purchased items.
