The U.S. Census Bureau has released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS), offering updated data on business activity across the United States. The BDS provides annual measures including job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns. These statistics cover the overall economy as well as breakdowns by establishment and firm characteristics, spanning from 1978 through 2023.

The latest data are accessible through the BDS website, the Census API, and BDS Explorer. The BDS Explorer tool allows users to visualize the full dataset using line charts, bar charts, and thematic maps. Its dashboard is designed for users to build tables and charts that compare different measures of business dynamics.

To find out more about these resources or access the data, visit the BDS page or use BDS Explorer.
