The U.S. Census Bureau released new tables and files on Apr. 15 containing detailed information from its 2025 Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections, covering taxes imposed and collected by state governments and the District of Columbia.

The release provides important data for policymakers, researchers, and the public to analyze tax policy, estimate gross domestic product, and develop national income accounts.

According to the Census Bureau, the survey includes five broad categories of taxes with up to 25 subcategories. The information is used by Congress, federal agencies, state and local governments, educational institutions, research organizations, and members of the public for a variety of economic analyses.

Further technical documentation is available for those seeking more details about the survey’s methodology or coverage.
