Union members in Washington, D.C. have set up a food pantry to assist those affected by the ongoing government shutdown, which has now lasted over 30 days. The initiative is providing canned goods to the public and collecting donations for local food banks that are supporting federal workers currently out of work. Among those impacted are members of the IAM Union and NFFE-IAM.
The effort comes as federal SNAP funding is running low, increasing concerns about food security for furloughed workers and their families.
