The University of Georgia has received high placements in the most recent Forbes and Niche rankings for colleges and universities. In the 2026 Forbes list, UGA advanced to No. 18 among public universities nationwide, moving up one spot from last year, and climbed to No. 11 among Southern institutions, an improvement of two places. Forbes evaluates schools using metrics such as return on investment, debt levels, and graduate outcomes.

“This national recognition is a direct reflection of the dedication of our faculty and staff and the achievements of our students,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “The University of Georgia is proud to be consistently ranked among the nation’s best public universities, and we remain committed to advancing academic excellence, supporting student success and serving the state of Georgia and beyond.”

In addition to its performance in Forbes’ ranking, UGA was recognized by Niche in its 2026 assessment. The university entered the top 10 national public universities at No. 10—up from No. 11 last year—and ranked No. 2 nationally for best student life as well as No. 10 for best college campuses. Niche awarded UGA an overall grade of A+, which is its highest rating.

Niche bases its rankings on factors including acceptance rates, alumni earnings, awards won by faculty members, and reviews from nearly half a million students.

Earlier this month, Princeton Review also included UGA in its Best Colleges rankings for 2025. The university was listed at No. 12 among the top 50 best value public universities in these rankings (https://www.princetonreview.com/college-rankings/best-value-colleges). Additional recognitions included being named No. 8 for best alumni networks among public schools (https://www.princetonreview.com/college-rankings?rankings=best-alumni-network), No. 10 for access to financial aid (https://www.princetonreview.com/college-rankings?rankings=great-financial-aid), and No. 16 for internship placement (https://www.princetonreview.com/college-rankings?rankings=top-internship-opportunities).

“These latest rankings underscore the transformative educational experience we provide at the University of Georgia,” said Benjamin C. Ayers, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “Our rise in national standing reflects not only the outstanding teaching and research of our faculty, but also the comprehensive support systems that empower our students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.”
