The University of Georgia Parents Leadership Council (PLC) has opened its grant application process for the 2026-2027 academic year. The council invites campus groups focused on improving undergraduate life to apply for funding, which can support scholarships, student-led initiatives, and other resources that enhance student experiences.
Each year, PLC grants are used by UGA schools, colleges, departments, and registered student organizations to create new programs and address important needs among students. This year’s application process features two separate pathways: one for university units and another for student organizations through the UGA Student Affairs’ Involvement Network.
A committee of nearly 100 PLC members will review all applications over a three-week period. Final decisions about funding are expected in early February. Groups that receive grants must demonstrate that their projects have a measurable impact on student life at the university.
In the previous cycle, the PLC raised $1.5 million—a record amount—to benefit 142 student organizations and campus programs such as the Sunshine Fund, which supports mental wellness among UGA students.
“To me, the Sunshine Fund is material proof of our shift toward wellness and caring for one another,” said recent graduate Sean Glennon. “Anytime I think of the Sunshine Fund, I’m reminded that we have a community that truly values supporting each other and is willing to give to make that happen.”
The UGA School of Medicine also received PLC support last year to fund scholarships for medical students. These students often graduate with debt exceeding $200,000, creating barriers for those entering medical practice in Georgia. The financial aid provided by PLC grants helps ease this burden and supports efforts to attract top medical students.
“Having strong student financial aid to offer will significantly enhance our efforts to bring an exceptional first class to Athens,” said Dr. Shelley Nuss, founding dean for the UGA School of Medicine. “By helping to offset the costs of a medical degree, we can incentivize the best medical students to become Bulldogs.”
Since its establishment in 2012, the PLC has grown to include more than 400 families and has distributed almost $8.5 million in grants across campus programs and scholarship funds.
Applications are due by October 31; late submissions will not be accepted. More information on applying is available at give.uga.edu/parents/#grants or by contacting parents@uga.edu.
