The University of Georgia (UGA) has been recognized by Time magazine as one of the top colleges for producing future leaders. In the Best Colleges for Future Leaders 2026 rankings, UGA was ranked 17th among public institutions nationwide and secured the No. 4 position among Southeastern Conference schools. It is also the highest-ranked public institution in Georgia.

Time’s ranking is based on a study that examined the educational and career paths of 4,800 influential leaders. Researchers used publicly available data to build profiles, identifying over 20,000 key milestones—excluding current positions and honorary roles—to determine which universities most frequently appeared in these leaders’ backgrounds. The analysis only included organizations with a strong presence in the United States, and milestone counts were adjusted according to organizational size to ensure fairness.

Overall, UGA placed 47th among both private and public institutions in the national rankings. The magazine highlighted UGA’s Terry College of Business for its significant role in preparing students for leadership across various fields. According to Time, initiatives like the Institute for Leadership Advancement at Terry combine academic coursework with practical experience to help develop leaders who are known for making values-based decisions.

In addition to this recognition from Time magazine, UGA was recently named No. 1 nationally for short-term study abroad participation in the 2025 Open Doors Report and achieved a No. 9 ranking in new college listings published by The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board. For ten consecutive years, UGA has remained within the top 20 best universities in the country according to U.S. News & World Report.
